Epaderm Ointment, Emollient and Bath Additive

Product Description

In response to customer feedback, Molnlycke Health Care is pleased to announce the removal of Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) from the Epaderm Product Range. All Epaderm Product Range are SLS free. The only noticeable difference is that in the absence of SLS the Epaderm may appear more firm in consistency.

Epaderm Ointment has been developed by dermatologists specifically for patients with dry skin. It was first developed and used by the Dermatology Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In a personal communication from one of the Consultant Dermatologists based within the Department, it states that"(Epaderm Ointment) very rarely indeed produces any adverse allergic or other reactions".

Epaderm Ointment is a 3-in-1 emollient, bath additive and skin cleanser for all dry skin conditions including eczema & psoriasis. It provides a complete emollient therapy in one product. There is no need for other products making it easy to use and more cost effective.

- suitable for all ages, including babies
- it is ideal for use in wet or dry wrapping
- it provides an effective film barrier which aids moisture retention within the skin and is long lasting
- it is malleable and easy to apply
- it is unlikely to cause skin sensitisation
- it contains no fragrances, colourings or additives
- it offers the three stages of complete emollient therapy

How should Epaderm Ointment be used in wet and dry wrapping?
Epaderm Ointment should be applied liberally to the skin before using Tubifast Garments or Tubifast Bandages. The ointment should be applied thickly (thick enough that you could write your name in the ointment). The wet/dry garments are then place on top.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as an emollient?
Epaderm Ointment should be applied to the skin as often as required.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as a bath additive?
Epaderm Ointment should be melted in a suitable container of hot water and then shaken to mix. Before adding to the bath, it is important to ensure that Epaderm Ointment has cooled sufficiently. Care should be taken as Epaderm Ointment will make the bath surface slippery. After bathing, the skin should be gently patted dry with a clean towel.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as a skin cleanser?
Epaderm Ointment should be used as required when washing or in the shower.

How should Epaderm Ointment be stored?
Epaderm Ointment should be stored below 25ºC in a dry place.

Some more information about Ointment:

Ointments are made from either mineral oils, like paraffin and petroleum jelly, or fats. They don’t contain any water. They are thicker than eczema cream and lotion. The drier your skin the greasier the treatment should be. If you hold a tub outside down, an ointment wont fall out.

You can buy some over the counter. Though if you use it regularly on a large area of skin, you might find it cheaper getting it on prescription.

The main property of ointments is that they help retain water in the skin. So it is ideal to use on very dry skin. Also on areas of thicker skin, like on the arms and legs.

Their greasiness means that they are not popular with everyone. They can be a bit messy, and make clothing greasy. This makes them a better choice to use at night.

One advantage of them is that they don’t contain any preservatives. This is because they don’t have any water in them. Creams and lotions do contain preservatives. The water in these can make the product go off. The preservatives may cause a reaction to the skin.

  1. Great for baths and overnight 5 Star Review

I use this ointment for my 1-2 month old baby's baths and it's fantastic. She's got really dry skin and this seems to help. I wouldn't use it directly on her skin unless overnight as it's really thick.
Really lovely and soft, even on a baby's skin!

I have nodular prurigo and have struggled for years to find a product which will not irritate my skin and counteract the drying effect of bleach baths, which I need to control infection but which dry the skin. I mix the cream with cortisone ointment, then cover with wet wraps. Not a cure, but it's the best product I have used to date, and I have cupboards full!

  3. Cheap and gentle 5 Star Review

Masters 3 and 5 complain about creams and ointments stinging if their skin is dry- even very expensive and 'natural' products. They have never complained about Epaderm. We have only used it for wet wrapping and on thier faces, not in the bath yet (I'm a bit over grease residue through the whole bathroom) and we are keeping the eczema at bay with just the after bath application.

  4. Excellent moisturizer for all applica6 5 Star Review

This product was recommended by my GP to use on my large post operative wound. I have some very uncomfortable areas on my tummy that have reacted to the glue on the plasters. Epaderm relives the redness and soreness and they are quickly healing. This product is also great for the face and decclotage. I also use it on my hair. Just a little on the hands while styling makes my hair silky and shiny. Best new prooduct have used in years.

We buy this regularly, it is very good at locking in moisture! I highly recommend for eczema as there is no fragrance or perfumes...it doesn't sting at all!

  8. Will buy again and again 5 Star Review

Locks in moisture and creates a thick barrier. It is a little greasy but doesn't seem to be as bad as Vaseline. It isn't as effective when the weather is hot and humid, but still better than anything else I've tried. It doesn't dry up quickly so I'm able to use it to sleep through the night without any itching. It's inexpensive and the 25g container is perfect for carrying around in my handbag.

  9. best ointment i've tried 5 Star Review

I love ointments for kids with eczema- they don't sting & much more tolerable than creams. Unlike other ointments I've tried epaderm does not melt in the heat of summer & at night provides great coverage to stop the itch. Yes greasy when first applied seems to soak well into the skin. This is now my go to product for my son's full body eczema.

  10. Best ezcema cream on the market 5 Star Review

This is the only product that heals my daughters eczema and keeps it at bay. We have the childs Tubifast Gloves as her hands are most affected by eczema. They can go from looking like crocodile skin to normal skin in just a day or two. We cannot live without this product.
