Nickel Alert® – Detect Nickel in Just 30 Seconds

Nickel Alert is the world's most trusted ready-to-use dimethylglyoxime (DMG) nickel test.

Simply apply a few drops to a cotton swab and rub the metal surface. A pink or red colour indicates that nickel is present.

Unlike mixing separate chemicals, Nickel Alert comes pre-mixed for consistent, accurate testing every time.

How to Use

Step 1 – Test with Nickel Alert®

1. Place 2–3 drops onto a cotton swab.
2. Rub firmly over the metal surface for 15–30 seconds.
3. A pink or red colour indicates nickel is present.
4. Use a fresh cotton swab for each test.

For comparison, a nickel coin (approximately 25% nickel) gives a strong positive result.

Always use in a well-ventilated area.

Step 2 – Apply Nickel Guard®

Where nickel has been detected:

• Apply 2–3 thin coats.
• Allow each coat to dry completely.
• Reapply when signs of wear appear.
• Periodically test again using Nickel Alert to ensure the barrier remains effective.

Nickel Alert and Nickel Guard are intended for use on metal surfaces only.

Always test on a small hidden area before full application.

Nickel Alert will not damage most metals, including delicate jewellery. However, it may affect varnished, lacquered or antique finishes.

Some evaporation of Nickel Alert may occur over time without reducing its effectiveness.

Because metal finishes vary, protective performance may differ depending on the item and how frequently it is worn.

Shipping & Safety

Nickel Solution contains a flammable liquid.

For transport safety, it can only be shipped via surface mail, which may result in slightly longer delivery times.

For hygiene and safety reasons, Nickel Alert cannot be returned once the tamper-evident seal has been broken.

Most stainless steel releases extremely low levels of nickel because the nickel is tightly bound within the alloy. As a result, it typically does not produce a positive result with Nickel Alert.
