Using Tubifast for Wet Wrap Therapy
Wet wrapping is commonly used for eczema and atopic dermatitis to help hydrate skin, reduce itching and calm inflammation.
How Wet Wrapping Works:
Step 1: Apply an emollient such as Epaderm Ointment to affected skin.
Step 2: Apply a damp layer of Tubifast bandage over the treated area.
Step 3: Apply a second dry Tubifast layer over the damp layer.
Benefits of Wet Wrapping:
- Helps keep skin moisturised
- Supports skin barrier repair
- Helps reduce itching
- Helps calm inflammation
- Helps prevent scratching
- Keeps emollients in contact with skin longer
- Provides a cooling and soothing effect
Using Tubifast for Dry Wrapping
Dry wrapping follows a similar process but uses only one dry layer.
How Dry Wrapping Works:
Step 1: Apply an emollient to affected skin.
Step 2: Cover the area with a single dry Tubifast bandage layer.
Dry wrapping helps:
- Protect irritated skin
- Keep moisturisers in contact with the skin
- Reduce scratching
- Improve comfort

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q1. What is TUBIFAST and what is it used for?
TUBIFAST is a lightweight elasticated tubular bandage manufactured by Mölnlycke Health Care. It features 2-Way Stretch™ technology with both radial and longitudinal stretch, making it ideal for dressing fixation and as a skin covering for any part of the body. It can also be used for patch wrapping and as an under-cast stockinette, and is particularly suitable for holding dressings in place on difficult body areas. It is widely used in both clinical and home care settings for adults and children.
Q2. How does TUBIFAST help with eczema treatment?
TUBIFAST is a clinically recognised tool in eczema management, especially for wet wrap therapy. Wet wrapping involves applying an emollient to the affected skin, which is then covered with a damp layer of TUBIFAST bandage. The emollient and the damp layer work together to keep the skin hydrated and moist, and help reduce inflammation. The damp layer also cools and soothes the skin and helps to reduce the itch. A second, dry layer of TUBIFAST is then applied on top to keep clothing dry and maximise the therapeutic effect.
Q3. What sizes does TUBIFAST come in, and how do I choose the right one?
TUBIFAST uses a colour-coded system to help users quickly identify the correct size for each body part. The bandages come in different widths: red line (3.5 cm), green line (5 cm), blue line (7.5 cm), yellow line (10.75 cm), beige line (17.5 cm), and purple line (20 cm). As a guide: the blue line is for large limbs, child legs, and adult arms; the yellow line suits children's trunks, heads, and large adult limbs; and the purple line is for extra-large adult limbs and trunks. When in doubt, sizing up is recommended, especially for young children or those wearing nappies.
Q4. Is TUBIFAST safe for sensitive skin and children?
Yes. TUBIFAST is suitable for a wide range of skin types, including eczema-prone or allergy-sensitive skin. It is latex-free, lightweight, and holds dressings securely without constriction or compression. TUBIFAST garments are available in a range of ready-to-wear vests, tights, leggings, and socks in sizes for children up to age 14, making them a practical option for managing paediatric eczema at home or in clinical settings.
Q5. Can TUBIFAST bandages be washed and reused?
Yes — TUBIFAST bandages are reusable. Gentle hand washing is recommended to prevent edges from fraying, and washing at 40°C is advised. Air drying is recommended for TUBIFAST tubular bandages. To prevent fraying in the washing machine, place the bandages inside a pillowcase before washing, and give them an extra rinse cycle to ensure all washing powder is removed. Reusability makes TUBIFAST a cost-effective solution for ongoing wound care or eczema management.
