Wet Wrapping Therapy
Wet wrapping is commonly used to help manage atopic eczema and dry, irritated skin.
The process generally involves:
- Applying an emollient or moisturiser to affected skin
- Applying a damp Tubifast layer over the treated area
- Applying a dry outer layer
Wet wrapping may help:
• Maintain skin hydration
• Keep moisturisers in contact with the skin
• Provide a cooling effect
• Help reduce itching and scratching
• Improve comfort during eczema flare-ups
Dry Wrapping
Dry wrapping follows a similar process but uses a single dry Tubifast layer applied over moisturised skin.
Fabric Composition:
- Viscose
- Nylon
- Elastane
Washing Instructions
- Machine washable up to 60°C (particularly when used with emollients)
- Tumble dry on low heat
- Use of a delicates washing bag is recommended
Durability
Tubifast garments and bandages are expected to last approximately 10–15 washes, depending on usage and care.

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ for Tubifast Garments (Vest, Leggings, Socks and Gloves):
What are TUBIFAST garments and what conditions are they used for?
TUBIFAST is a range of two-way stretch tubular retention bandages and garments — including vests, leggings, gloves, and socks — used to retain dressings, manage eczema (atopic dermatitis), and apply wet or dry wrap therapy. They are also used for contact dermatitis, ichthyosis, and other chronic inflammatory skin conditions in adults and children.
How do TUBIFAST vests, leggings, gloves, and socks differ — and when should each be used?
Each garment targets a specific body region. Vests cover the trunk and are ideal for widespread torso eczema or dressing retention on the chest or abdomen. Leggings secure dressings along the legs. Gloves are used for hand eczema and finger dressings. Socks manage foot and ankle skin conditions. All styles can be layered for wet wrap or dry wrap therapy.
How do you use TUBIFAST garments for wet wrap therapy at home?
For wet wrap therapy, apply emollient or prescribed topical treatment to the skin, then put on a damp (not soaking) inner TUBIFAST garment. Cover this with a dry outer garment of the same type. Leave in place for several hours or overnight. The moisture helps the skin absorb the emollient and soothes flare-ups. Always follow the guidance of a dermatologist or specialist nurse before starting wet wrap therapy.
What sizes are available and how do I choose the right TUBIFAST garment size?
TUBIFAST garments are available in a wide range of sizes from premature infant through to adult. Sizing is based on body measurements such as chest, waist, hip, or hand circumference depending on the garment type. Consult the manufacturer's sizing guide or ask a healthcare professional to measure and recommend the correct size, as an ill-fitting garment may not retain dressings effectively or could restrict circulation.
Are TUBIFAST garments reusable, and how should they be washed and cared for?
Yes — TUBIFAST garments are designed to be reusable and can be laundered multiple times without losing their stretch properties. Wash at 60 °C (140 °F) to maintain hygiene, particularly when used over broken or infected skin. Do not use fabric softener, as this can reduce the fabric's two-way stretch. Replace garments when they become visibly worn, lose elasticity, or after infection to prevent cross-contamination.
