OINTMENT Epaderm, Emollient and Bath Additive

Product Description

In response to customer feedback, Molnlycke Health Care is pleased to announce the removal of Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) from the Epaderm Product Range. All Epaderm Product Range are SLS free. The only noticeable difference is that in the absence of SLS the Epaderm may appear more firm in consistency.

Epaderm Ointment has been developed by dermatologists specifically for patients with dry skin. It was first developed and used by the Dermatology Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In a personal communication from one of the Consultant Dermatologists based within the Department, it states that"(Epaderm Ointment) very rarely indeed produces any adverse allergic or other reactions".

Epaderm Ointment is a 3-in-1 emollient, bath additive and skin cleanser for all dry skin conditions including eczema & psoriasis. It provides a complete emollient therapy in one product. There is no need for other products making it easy to use and more cost effective.

- suitable for all ages, including babies
- it is ideal for use in wet or dry wrapping
- it provides an effective film barrier which aids moisture retention within the skin and is long lasting
- it is malleable and easy to apply
- it is unlikely to cause skin sensitisation
- it contains no fragrances, colourings or additives
- it offers the three stages of complete emollient therapy

How should Epaderm Ointment be used in wet and dry wrapping?
Epaderm Ointment should be applied liberally to the skin before using Tubifast Garments or Tubifast Bandages. The ointment should be applied thickly (thick enough that you could write your name in the ointment). The wet/dry garments are then place on top.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as an emollient?
Epaderm Ointment should be applied to the skin as often as required.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as a bath additive?
Epaderm Ointment should be melted in a suitable container of hot water and then shaken to mix. Before adding to the bath, it is important to ensure that Epaderm Ointment has cooled sufficiently. Care should be taken as Epaderm Ointment will make the bath surface slippery. After bathing, the skin should be gently patted dry with a clean towel.

How should Epaderm Ointment be used as a skin cleanser?
Epaderm Ointment should be used as required when washing or in the shower.

How should Epaderm Ointment be stored?
Epaderm Ointment should be stored below 25ºC in a dry place.

Some more information about Ointment:

Ointments are made from either mineral oils, like paraffin and petroleum jelly, or fats. They don’t contain any water. They are thicker than eczema cream and lotion. The drier your skin the greasier the treatment should be. If you hold a tub outside down, an ointment wont fall out.

You can buy some over the counter. Though if you use it regularly on a large area of skin, you might find it cheaper getting it on prescription.

The main property of ointments is that they help retain water in the skin. So it is ideal to use on very dry skin. Also on areas of thicker skin, like on the arms and legs.

Their greasiness means that they are not popular with everyone. They can be a bit messy, and make clothing greasy. This makes them a better choice to use at night.

One advantage of them is that they don’t contain any preservatives. This is because they don’t have any water in them. Creams and lotions do contain preservatives. The water in these can make the product go off. The preservatives may cause a reaction to the skin.

I've been dealing with my son's eczema for years and have only just found this product, I wish I knew about it earlier. After 1 night using this product and the wet wrapping technique my son's eczema was almost clear. So impressed. Thank you, thank you, thank you

  3. Relief x 2 5 Star Review

A few months ago I developed Dyshidrotic Eczema for the first time all over the palms of my hands and fingers. Lots of bubbles and sores which dried into painful, dry cracks which would tear and bleed and I wasn't able to bend my fingers at all. After purchasing almost heavy duty moisturiser I could find with horrible and sometimes painful results, I used the Epaderm ointment every night as an overnight treatment before going to bed for a little over a week under 2 sets of cotton gloves - one wet and one dry and the relief!!!!! My hands are healing completely in between flareups and no burning at all when slathering all over my hands - so glad I found this product.

  4. Relief!!! 5 Star Review

My son suffered with severe eczema before being given a sample of Epaderm from his Allergist. It provides a protective barrier to help hold in the moisture, stops allergens from getting in (which for my highly allergic child is very important) and does not sting. Who would have thought...a product that doesn't sting?! I wholeheartedly recommend this product.

  5. Gentle on kids! Good product! 5 Star Review

A friend recommended this for my kids with eczma. Started using for more than a couple of weeks now and it helps to relieve early symptoms of eczma outbreak or just simple dry skin. Definitely keeps skin moisturised longer than Vasaline. good product.

The best product I have found, hands down, to provide my skin with a barrier. My eczema has improved about 500% as a result. I use this at night and the cream in the morning.

  7. Great for baths and overnight 5 Star Review

I use this ointment for my 1-2 month old baby's baths and it's fantastic. She's got really dry skin and this seems to help. I wouldn't use it directly on her skin unless overnight as it's really thick.
Really lovely and soft, even on a baby's skin!

  8. best product 5 Star Review

I have nodular prurigo and have struggled for years to find a product which will not irritate my skin and counteract the drying effect of bleach baths, which I need to control infection but which dry the skin. I mix the cream with cortisone ointment, then cover with wet wraps. Not a cure, but it's the best product I have used to date, and I have cupboards full!

  9. Cheap and gentle 5 Star Review

Masters 3 and 5 complain about creams and ointments stinging if their skin is dry- even very expensive and 'natural' products. They have never complained about Epaderm. We have only used it for wet wrapping and on thier faces, not in the bath yet (I'm a bit over grease residue through the whole bathroom) and we are keeping the eczema at bay with just the after bath application.

  10. Excellent moisturizer for all applica6 5 Star Review

This product was recommended by my GP to use on my large post operative wound. I have some very uncomfortable areas on my tummy that have reacted to the glue on the plasters. Epaderm relives the redness and soreness and they are quickly healing. This product is also great for the face and decclotage. I also use it on my hair. Just a little on the hands while styling makes my hair silky and shiny. Best new prooduct have used in years.
